OK, you know when it comes to being a great expat, I’m that, well in reference to cultural adaptions, but food, call me the bad expat.
Y’all I love American food over all other foods, except Mexican. So, while I’m here, I look for all the American food places or American like places between Abu Dhabi and Dubai. I didn’t have to search too hard for this place, Tony Roma’s, because my colleague told me about it as we were heading out on a trip.
I was somewhat familiar with the name, as I heard it a few times, I believe in the DC area, but this was my first taste of the American cuisine.
The decor is very American, the seating is very American, and the tongue teaser, was too, very American.
You get the theme right…American.
Moving right along.
OK, second little note about me, I can’t ever pass chips and salsa. They are the prozac to any problems brought to the table or suppressed in ones thoughts. They are the alpha and omega to problem solving. The chips and salsa at Tony Roma’s didn’t disappoint either. The chips were warm, light, and crispy while the salsa was cool and chunky. That’s something like perfection.
Sidebar: prior to arriving to Tony Roma’s, we checked in to our hotel. We selected this spot because it is close to the airport and an easy escape from the madness that is Dubai’s traffic. NEVER AGAIN. I said all this to say, the buffet of food that you’re about to see is in response to our sorrows regarding the dump of a hotel.
Corn Chowder – great taste, a little too thin
Chicken Quesadilla – They loved them. I’m not a quesadilla kind of girl.
Chicken Wings – Perfection! I may or may not have driven back to Dubai weekly for these.
Cobb Salad – One of the best I’ve ever had. This salad is humungous. It’s enough for a family of four if used as an appetizer salad.
Salmon and vegetables – She loved it, gobbled it, and wanted more.
Chopped Steak Sandwich – Average but wouldn’t order again.
Beef Sliders – Average – May try again
As you see, we ate ourselves into a gluttonous coma. There wasn’t any room for dessert, breathing, and rational decision making. Thank goodness for the after dinner walk in hunt for my compression socks, otherwise I would have taken a nap right inside of the restaurant.
