After our amazing but short time in Budapest, we were off to Austria.
The ride between the countries was pretty short from what I remember, therefore I wasn’t too grouchy when we arrived; thank goodness too. My word, it was hot as the dickens in Vienna. Why? Why did it decide to be unseasonably warm during my travel time? Since I can’t fight dear sweet Mother Nature, I had no choice but to roll with it.
insert high blowing fan and AC here, please, I beg of you
We visited Belvedere Palace and Museum, pictured above. It had a stately presence with lush gardens and water features. It was also flanked with engaging statues (pictured below). It was one of the more picturesque places in Vienna. There were several but this stop stood out because of its elegance.
She’s a confident little thing isn’t she?
When we visited the Schonbrunn Palace, things began to heat up quickly.
I didn’t engage much in this stop, it was just too damn hot. There wasn’t a tree or shade in site. I pretty much used the facilities, bought some water, took a few snaps, and hid in the breezeway. The heat was a beast and I couldn’t compete. I couldn’t wait to get back on the bus and head to lunch.
I think I felt like Arnold Schwarznegger. The setting was grand with lots of fanfare. We had a traditional Austrian lunch: schnitzel with potatoes, salad, and an apple crispy for dessert.
..and then we were off again
cafes, street markets, gardens…
then the rain came
so I shopped indoors…. (I know this was outside but…yeah.. be imaginative)
Austria part 2 tomorrow… I’ll be in Graz.
