Abu Dhabi is one of the most attractive cities in the Middle East.
Europeans, East Asians, Africans, and a growing American sect visit the city in droves each year. Determining where to lodge is often a pressing thought of first time visitors. The toggle between Dubai and Abu Dhabi, in addition to decision for a city hotel or one on the corniche puzzles the would-be traveler. Just on the fringe of downtown Abu Dhabi with views facing the Arabian Sea, Sofitel Abu Dhabi offers luxury and access to the pearl of the Middle East.
Sofitel’s sprawling exterior exudes prominence and style. The lean towers are landmarks in the city without addresses and a welcome point to the warm beaches on the corniche of Abu Dhabi.
Sofitel is a 5-Star Hotel and a review of the amenities are below:
The hotel’s entrance and concierge were immediately welcoming. We were greeted as soon as we drove into valet and then escorted to reception. Warm towels and a refreshing drinks awaited us. Because of their efficiency, by the time we finished our drinks and chatted a bit, check in was completed.
Most times our staycations are one or two night, just enough to refresh and reset. The time away from our place seems like miles away most times. Our setting for this jaunt was a standard room overlooking the Abu Dhabi Corniche. Because it was a clear day, we saw well into the Arabian Sea; a bit difficult to photograph through the glass.
The room had all of the comforts of a Middle Eastern 5-Star Hotel but it was one of the smaller rooms on our hotel staycation lists. The entry way was narrow, the placement of the sitting tub was practically inside of the bedroom, and there was minimal space for walking.
Believe it or not, February in the Middle East can be a bit chilly. We had plans to take a dip in the pool, but the gusty winds had other things in mind, so we had to skip pool time. We managed to grab a few shots before dashing back in to warmer temps and a quick spin around the rest of the hotel.
The biryani was a solid choice and the spaghetti Bolognese was satisfying. There weren’t the best, but I won’t complain either.
Sofitel Abu Dhabi offers four restaurant selections. We enjoyed a full breakfast at Corniche Restaurant where our plates and hearts were filled to capacity. The food options includes bites to appeal to Arab, Indian, East-Asian, and “western” delights. We sat, ate, and ate. If you’re in town for a few days, definitely have a meal or two here.
Of course Sofitel Abu Dhabi is recommended. It’s the perfect location for those seeking a weekend get-a-way and those on holiday because of it’s proximity to the beach, local shops, and night life. The only hiccup was the size and layout of the standard room.
