Cotham’s Mercantile, Home of the Hubcap Burger

By August 16, 2016April 20th, 2017Travel + Culture

You’ve probably stopped here because you’ve researched “hubcap burger” and I did the same. That’s how I found, Cotham’s Mercantile in Scott, AR.

…and then a local recommendation.

Cotham's Mercantile

Getting to Cotham’s Mercantile is quite easy from Little Rock, North Little Rock, or any of the surrounding areas. However, once you arrive, parking, that’s just across the street in the brush, may present a bit of a challenge.

….it’s OK though

challenge, yes

taxing, no.

Here’s the thing with Cotham’s, it’s popular, it’s quaint, and the hours are limited, so pack some patience.

….and please don’t come on your lunch hour, if you only have an hour.

please.

About the Cotham’s Experience

The thing I must appreciated about Cotham’s Mercantile was the authentic setting, the down-home feel, and the family kitchen dining. It’s a place where you’ll have “Pop”, say, “hey ya’ll”, and wear jeans without feeling underdressed.

….jeans are recommended actually.

maybe Levi’s or Wrangler’s even.

comfortable shoes too.

We visited Cotham’s during the week, just after the lunch rush; or what we thought was the lunch rush.

Once we arrive, the restaurant was still very packed with more people filing in after us. There was standing room only.

Because we were in good spirits and the other patrons were delightful, we didn’t mind standing and taking in the artifacts.

Once we were seated, we were greeted, our orders taken, and just a sneeze of a wait until the famous hubcap burger arrived.

We both ordered the same, but my mom had tomatoes and lettuce.

For me, just onions, cheese, pickles, and mustard.

Was it worth the wait and did it live up to the foodie chatter?

hubcap-burger

The Cotham’s Mercantile Hubcap Burger is everything the hype says it is. It’s perfectly season, southern fried, unpretentious brick of beef. You’re simple served a healthy sized burger with a cousin portion of fries, and the “pop” of your choice, that soda for your northeastern folks.

The only blow I’d give about the experience is the size of the burger. Though it’s large, XXL even, it’s not exactly a hubcap, not even for a tricycle.
